Independent Voters of Iowa

About

Independent Voters of Iowa is a political organization working to increase the visibility and power of Independent Voters, and to give Independents the voice that their rising numbers and influence demands. In Iowa, Independents are nearing the 40% mark of registered voters, with 782,738 at last count! We choose to work with all candidates, citizens and organizations that have the same common goal of an open, fair and Constitutional political process.

We work with the National Independent voters movement and with the other States’ organizations to open the political process and assist like-minded candidates.

Independent voters, voters who have elected not to be part of the two party problem, are the third force in American politics. Candidates need this third force to push them over the top on election day.

Independents in Iowa have played an active roll in Presidential politics and in the fight against corruption in our electoral process. In the 2004 election, Iowa Independents assisted in petitioning for ballot access for two Presidential Candidates, which put two Candidates on the ballot in Iowa. In 2007 the National Independent Voters organization and the Independent Party of New York awarded an anti-corruption award to an Iowa Independent. Iowa Independents have also played a key part in RockTheDebates.org, an effort to open the Presidential Debates to the top six candidates in the 2008 Presidential election.

In 2009, Independent Voters in Iowa are working to remove discriminatory election laws that prohibit Independents from equal participation in the election process.

This year, as in 2006, Independents from Iowa will attend the National Conference of Independents in New York.

Nationally, as in Iowa, Independents are the fastest growing political force in America.

Independents are the largest block of voters in the State of Iowa – larger than the Democrats, larger than the Republicans.

Who are Independent Voters?

Independents are the Largest block of voters in the United States of America, larger than the Democrats and larger than the Republicans! Independent Voters nationwide are organizing in an effort to bring politics back to the ideals that built this country. George Washington warned us of the destructive effects that Parties would have on the our Republic, an exact illustration we see today in the two Party monopoly.

Across the USA, voters have come to the realization that the two major Parties are no longer representing We the People. These two parties are dedicated to representing “We the Party” and seem to have little or no dedication to the Constitution and the ideal that the people wield the political power. The Democrats and Republicans have handed over control to the global corporations and media interests who have purchased both parties with campaign contributions.

Fundamentally, this is the cause of the rapid growth of Independents. The core fabric that binds Independent Voters is the realization that without repairing our political process these partisan political power brokers and moneyed interests will continue to control the agenda of our government.

Independent Voters are not “swing voters”. They have deeply rooted beliefs about the corruptive influence of partisanship and political labeling. Independent Voters come from all parts of the political spectrum and defy traditional political labels; 90% of them cited a broken political system as their reason for becoming and Independent.

The majority of American voters are frustrated with the mediocre candidates offered by the two major parties, and when these mediocre candidates enter office, they take us further down the path away from open Constitutional government. The only change we see is more and more change to increase Executive Power, and more loss of liberty.

The Republican and Democrat parties have shown no dedication to free speech or the rights of an informed electorate. Whenever possible, they have worked to disallow the American voters from hearing and seeing all the candidates we have to choose from. They continually use tactics and collusive behaviors that border on treasonous activities to keep fellow citizens off of ballots and out of candidate debates. They use their corporate campaign contributions and PAC monies to generate lawsuits to consume the campaign funds of other candidates.

These two parties, and their unethical and unconstitutional behaviors are destroying our country! This is not the democratic Republic that was envisioned by our Founding Fathers. There are many voters across the country that are self-proclaimed Independents, but are still on voter rolls as registered Democrats or Republicans so they can participate in ‘closed’ primaries and caucuses. Popular polling indicates that well over 50% of voters consider themselves Independents.
