Ron Paul
Hi,
My name is Cuylor Reeves, I am a Regional Director on Ron Paul’s 2012 Presidential campaign. I spoke with one of your supporters and was asked to post something on the website about Ron Paul for independent voters. Attached is a picture that you can accompany with the following information
“Congressman Ron Paul of Texas enjoys a national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today. Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535″ on Capitol Hill.
Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies! He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have eighteen grandchildren.
While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. He served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He also was a key member of the Gold Commission, advocating a return to a gold standard for our currency. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending, and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.
Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th Congressional district of Texas. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the International Relations committee, and the Joint Economic Committee. On the Financial Services Committee, Rep. Paul serves as the vice-chairman of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.
Dr. Paul is the author of several books, including Challenge to Liberty; The Case for Gold; and A Republic, If You Can Keep It. He has been a distinguished counselor to the Ludwig von Mises Institute, and is widely quoted by scholars and writers in the fields of monetary policy, banking, and political economy. He has received many awards and honors during his career in Congress, from organizations such as the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, the Council for a Competitive Economy, and countless others.
Dr. Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one Congressman to comment that “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another Congresswoman added that “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”

To the Independent Voters of Iowa
I announced my candidacy for Sate Representative, District 49 on September 26, 2009. You can find my announcement in the Fort Dodge Messenger Newspaper archives. Since that time I have been taking every opportunity to meet with current legislators and others candidates running for office. Also knocking on a lot of doors in my district, and meeting with many social groups. Trying to vet candidates that I would be willing to support as well as asking for support from those candidates.
The reason I have focused so much attention on getting to know other candidates is that a single voice may be able say what needs to be said, but without support it is very hard for that voice to be heard. We are in a time that our nation and our state needs to address the way we have been represented. I firmly believe that if we don’t pay real attention to the candidates running for office we will continue to have our nation and state slip into socialism.
In my mind running as an Independent is the option for me, because I have never been affiliated with any party. How ever many of the people I have talked with have expressed the opinion that if I was to run as a Republican the race would be easier.
This is one of the problems I see with most of the current politicians, they are charged with the duty to defend the Constitution and rights of their constituents. I feel that many have lost sight of what their job is, because it is just a service job. We need to remove the career politicians from office and get everyday Americans into office so we can set term limits. Also stop them from voting in pay raises and get rid of the pork put into so many bills. This isn’t a one man job but if we can get a few servants to the people into office we might be able to undo some of the damaged that has been done while the We the people trusted the people charged with representing us.
I’m 40 years old, and have been married for 15 years to my wife Amy, and we have 2 sons and a daughter: Jordan, Miles, and Sydnee. The Idea that my children will have to try and pay back the dept that is out of control from decades of corruption is unjust to them. For them to be in dept before they have even begun to think of their future simply put is Wrong. I can’t say that I’m the most knowledgeable candidate for the job, but I am willing to listen and serve the people.
I would welcome the opportunity to have a conversation with you about my candidacy and the issues. I can be contacted by E-mail (malcazar2010@live.com) or by phone at (515) 570-1456
Thank you for your time

Independent Candidate for
Sate Representative District 49
Tom Shaw

To the Independent Voters of Iowa:
I am running as an Independent candidate for the Iowa House, District 8. This district includes all, or parts of, the following counties: Pocahontas, Humboldt, Kossuth and Webster.
After being a life-long Republican, I came to the realization that neither major party was listening to the voice of “We the People.” Too often the party machine and the elected officials from those parties seek to gain power for the sake of power. Both parties work together to ensure that a “third” choice is not available. Personally, I am tired of walking away from the voting booth and saying to myself “I voted for the lesser of two evils.” Wouldn’t it be great to be able to say, “I voted for good today?” George Washington’s fear of political parties is well founded, and unfortunately, his fears are now our reality.
I have been campaigning heavily since my announcement in June 2009. I have received an unbelievably positive response from the voters that I have met and talked to. While campaigning at county fairs, parades, farmers markets and town celebrations, the message I receive is always the same, “It’s great to have an Independent to vote for!”
When I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1982, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution and I hold that oath dear to this day. As a Chief of Police, I have taken a similar oath which I equally take serious. I believe that it is time that all elected officials take their oath seriously and return to governing based on the U.S. and Iowa Constitutions. Too many elected officials have forgotten that Iowa’s Constitution provides that “all political power is inherent in the people.”
I would like to ask you, the Independent Voters of Iowa, for your support in my campaign. I truly believe that the time is right to break up the two-party monopoly through the election of Independent candidates.
